Seclusion Room Doorsets

Have been designed and developed in conjunction with the nursing staff and management of special hospitals and secure units. Proven over several years to offer the security necessary for this unique environment.

Much thought and attention has been given to the relevant operational requirements by the specialist staff, ensuring the optimum security and safety levels are maintained.

  • Balanced attack resilience

A solid hardwood lamel cored door, 54mm thick as standard, coated in a 'Steriglaze' epoxy resin and hung in a 'utile' hardwood frame. This offers an excellent finish coupled with a high level resistance to abrasion and mechanical damage, together with ease of cleaning.

The door is mortice fitted with a robust, well engineered SURELOCK multiple bolting/locking system securing the door at the top, bottom and centre simultaneously, evenly distributing the load against repetitive patient abuse. All bolts being secured by the simple rotation of a key which may be chosen from a wide selection of lock manufacturers to meet preferred key suiting requirements.

The door is hung using three, five knuckle security hinges with welded knuckles preventing tampering to the huge pin. Bronze bearings fitted in and between each knuckle ensure ease of operation and prevent hinge drop even after many years of service.

A pair of hinge bolts are fitted to complete the all-round resistance to attack.

  • Disturbed patient facility

Provision is included for the fast and effective securement of a disturbed patient within the room.

The door is mortice fitted with a SURELOCK multiple bolting.locking system with an 'auto-bolting' feature which provides a fast and effective 'slam-shut' facility as soon as the door reaches its closed position.

Immediate protection is now assured by the three bolts holding the door secure in its' frame with no handle on the inside.

finally the door can be key locked from the outside for total security.

  • Visual awareness of door status

    Door closed with handle horizontal
Door closed with handle down at 45°
    Door secure
    Door not secure

An important feature of the SURELOCK system fitted to these doorsets is the key being retained in the unlocked position, this ensures that the bolts are either secured in their thrown or retracted position, enabling the door status to be easily observed at all times. This ensures maximum staff awareness and safety at all times when patients are allowed free access to their rooms.

bolts held secure in their retracted position allow patients full access to their rooms whilst ensuring maximum staff awareness and therefore a safe working environment.

  • Hostage prevention

To guard against a member of staff being locked inside a room, the SURELOCK system is prevented from being operated unless first being primed by the nurses' key, which is withheld in the lock until the door has been re-secured.

The fact that the key is attached to the staff's lanyard, ensures that the lock cannot be primed with the staff held hostage inside the room.

This is the natural default operation and is achieved without any pre-thought on the part of the nursing staff as the key cannot be withdrawn until it has been returned to the locked status.

  • Barricade Protection - 62

The ergonomic SURELOCK handle fitted to the outside of the door provides a comfortable, smooth operation to release the multiple bolting/locking system.

The handle is designed to prevent the use of a stiff bar passing through it. This eliminates the possibility of a barricade situation by a bar bracing the door across it's' frame or between the handles of two adjacent doors.

  • Choice of finishes

    'Pitakote Hi-build'

An epoxy resin finish to the door which enables it to be cleaned with water in the case of being soiled and is available in almost all BS381C, BS480 and RAL colours, other colours would be subject to enquiry.

    Veneered finish

Veneered finishes are readily available either on one side or both sides to meet any special on-site requirements, for example:

  • Patients' own key facility (optional)
A latch has to be designed by SURELOCK MCGILL in conjunction with the nursing staff and management of special hospitals and secure units which can be included, if required, to provide the facility for a patient to have a key for their own room but still retaining safety, security and control.

With the key cylinder suited under the nurses' key, this facility offers a patient privacy within their own rooms with access at all times by the nursing staff.

  • Facility withdrawal
The patient latch has a discreet hold-back feature, whereby its use can be prevented. The feature is such that it should only be disabled following authorisation. Logging could be carried out to provide management awareness of when and why this facility is withdrawn, i.e. following abuse by the patient etc.

  • Release handle
A safety designed, close fitting, stainless steel handle on the inside of the door enables the patient to exit from the room, this handle can always be overridden by the key on the outside, even under patient duress.

  • Cylinder removal
A fast cylinder removal feature included within the design ensures minimum time delay in obtaining access to the room, should patient abuse prevent the external key from being operated.
